Metro Soccer NY announces the NYC South Africa 2010
World Cup tournament. We're
already getting press!
Together with the South African Consulate of New York,
we will be hosting the 2010 South Africa NYC World
Cup tournament in the Spring of 2010.
This is a joint adult-youth tournament which will take
place over the weekend of June 5th & 6th. The purpose
of this event is to raise funds for Metro Soccer's charity
organization, Play
Study Win and to promote South Africa and the 2010
World Cup.
Participating adult teams will...

* Be assigned a participating nation in the 2010 World Cup.
* Be paired with a NYC public school who will be assigned the same country.
* Participate in the group stages of this 7v7 tournament over the weekend of
June 5th and 6th.
* If placed first or second in their group, move on to the knockout stages.
Here's how it will work.
Teams that enter the tournament will be paired with a NYC public school team
and both will be assigned a participating World Cup national team. In March/April
of 2010 we will send one of our coaches to conduct a 6 week training program
in each school. In addition, we will develop academic material which will teach
the children in the school about the country they are representing, the history
of the World Cup and the nation of South Africa. We'd also like the adult team
to spend a couple of hours at the school one afternoon and perhaps, if you are
a corporate team, invite some of the children over to their workplace one afternoon
to begin to establish a relationship between the corporate world and the world
of a child from an under served community in the city.
